Course Categories

All Philosophy courses fall into one of five categories: Required Courses, Contemporary Core, Indian and Non-Western Philosophy, History of Western Philosophy, and Elective Only.

All course categorizations can be found at the Present and Future Courses page and the Past Courses page. The categorization for a course can also be determined by its course #. All 1000 level courses are required courses. For 2000, 3000, and 4000 courses, the table below describes which category it falls into.

• CC: Contemporary Core 
• EO: Elective Only
• HW: History of Western Philosophy
• IN: Indian and Non-Western Philosophy
